PRESS RELEASE:

The much-anticipated sequel to Susie Kelly's US Amazon Top 30-ranking bestseller I Wish I Could Say I Was Sorry, SAFARI ANTS, BAGGY PANTS & ELEPHANTS will be published on June 6th in print and ebook.  Amazon pre-order now open, making Susie Kelly a Hot New Release and taking her to the US #1 #2 slots in the US Kindle Kenya chart.

More than 40 years after leaving Kenya, Susie unexpectedly finds herself returning for a safari organised by an old friend.

With her husband Terry she sets off for a holiday touring the game reserves, but what she finds far exceeds her expectations. In this her seventh travelogue, she takes readers from five star hotels to luxury tents in the wilderness, and to poverty in Nairobi's slums, describing a journey of joy, excitement, discovery, nostalgia, of new friendships and encounters of the very close kind with Kenya’s majestic wildlife. Forgotten memories come flooding back as she revisits the scenes of her childhood and adolescence, so movingly portrayed in her popular memoir I Wish I Could Say I Was Sorry, many of them changed beyond recognition.

The next Gone Girl, lauded by critics, is a Scottish thriller by debut author

A slam dunk of a debut up there with the big hitters. Move over Gone Girl you’ve got company on the top shelf. – Read & Rated Book Reviews

"Intelligent psychological drama about a toxic friendship, with a gasp-making twist."

GOOD HOUSEKEEPING THRILLER OF THE MONTH - AUG 2016

READ THE PREVIEWS

LONDON June 28 2016:  The publishing trend for exceptionally well-written summer debut novels about female friendship with sinister overtones, sparked by Emma Cline's The Girls, is set to follow with the launch of S. E. Lynes' debut. Her hauntingly intelligent psychological thriller Valentina launches in UK paperback and worldwide ebook on 1 JULY 2016.

THE STORY When Govan journalist Shona McGilvery moves from Glasgow with her partner Mikey and their baby to an idyllic cottage in Aberdeenshire, they believe that all that lies ahead of them is happiness. But with Mikey working offshore, the frightening isolation of the Aberdeenshire countryside begins to drive her insane... That is, until she is rescued by a new friendship with the enchanting Valentina. She has the perfect home, the perfect man, and a charismatic new best friend – or does she?

ABOUT THE AUTHOR: S. E. LYNES is a creative writing teacher at Richmond Adult Community College, Richmond-Upon-Thames. She lives in Teddington, SW London with her husband and 3 children.

HOW SHE WAS DISCOVERED: It is rare for any publisher to discover a debut author of this calibre. After attending an event at Richmond Adult Community College about writing and publishing in the digital age, hosted by small London publisher Blackbird Digital Books and ex-tutor Susan Lee Kerr, S. E. Lynes sent in her sample chapters. She was immediately spotted by Blackbird's newly-appointed Commissioning Editor in her first editorial role. "Valentina is the sort of novel that captivates you immediately," says Rosalie Love. "The writing is exquisite, the characters real and flawed, the wilds of Aberdeenshire and glittering granite of the city beautifully evoked. I defy any reader to not be completely consumed by this remarkable debut novel."

COVER DESIGN: Is by the author's equally talented brother, Game of Thrones graphic artist, Robert Ball.

JK ROWLING SETS NEW IMPRINT NIGHTINGALE'S DEBUT AUTHOR OFF ON A FLYING START

LONDON 18 APRIL: Blackbird Digital Books' new imprint, Nightingale Editions, launches today with news of its first signing, a debut novel Dark Water by Sara Bailey.

On the day Orkney resident Sara received her contract with Nightingale in the post, a visit to her local library brought an auspicious surprise. She was settling down with her library book group to discuss The Cuckoo's Calling when the author JK Rowling walked in. She had heard about the group after Orkney's chief librarian Stuart Bain had jokingly Tweeted an invite to her for some lemon drizzle cake. She stayed and chatted with the group for over an hour and posed for photos.

As Sara only had a digital version of the book with her, she asked if JK would autograph her Moleskine notebook, a brand favoured by writers the world over.
"She smiled," said Sara, "and looked at the notebook,
'Are you a writer?' she asked.
'I just signed my first book deal this morning.' I blurted out, my face going a deep shade of beetroot. She gave me a huge hug and looked round the room,
'Do they know, you're a writer? You must tell them?'
I hushed her and went even redder. This is Orkney we don't shout out things like that in public. She signed the notebook and wished me lots of luck. I didn't read what she'd written till I left the library. Good job too. I nearly cried when I did."

Dark Water, a psychologically intense portrait of adolescent yearning and obsession set in the Orkney Islands, will be published in ebook and paperback in October 2016. Nightingale's founder, author and writing coach Jacqui Lofthouse, says: "The Nightingale, of course, is a bird which sings in the darkness, and is considered symbolic of beauty and immortality. We aim to publish unique, original voices, voices which will endure. We believe in nurturing writers' careers and will publish only those who are deeply committed to their craft, to honing their own talent and thrilling readers with their 'song'."

Let's face it, most cook books are selling a dream: mouth-watering recipes, styled to within a pea's hair, then photographed in the kind of pristine kitchens that very few of us own. More of us have kitchens like Susie's, veering towards the chaotic rather than clutter-free.  So settle down with the bestselling travel author in the kitchen of her French farmhouse and enjoy this no-fuss, no-nonsense collection of wholesome, fail-safe, quick and simple meat-free recipes.

Susie makes no claims to being a cooking queen. She admits that over the years she has made every cookery mistake possible, including pouring hot oil back into a plastic bottle and watching the bottle melt and flood most of the kitchen. Then there was the great icing sugar misunderstanding....  but in The Lazy Cook she has put together an irresistible collection of the tasty, comfort-food recipes that are enjoyed by her family and friends, spattered with generous blobs of anecdote and humour.

One of those rare cookery books that won't be left on the shelf, but will mature with well-thumbed age as its pages become patterned with stains of food, wine, cream, butter and all things delicious

ABOUT SUSIE KELLY

“There are a handful of authors who achieve that elusive trick of making you laugh out loud. For me it’s James Herriot, Bill Bryson and Susie Kelly.” French EntrĂ©e Magazine
Born a Londoner, Susie Kelly spent most of the first 25 years of her life in Kenya. She now lives in south-west France with her husband and assorted animals. She believes that her explosive temper is a legacy from her Irish-American grandfather, but has no idea who to blame for her incompetence as a housewife. Still, she’s very kind to animals, small children and elderly people. Susie particularly enjoys exploring the road less travelled, discovering the lives and events of lesser-known places.
Susie has a rapidly growing fan base. In 2013 her popular travel books achieved the straight flush #1, #2, #3, #4 and #5 in the UK Amazon French Travel chart. In  2014, her remarkable memoir I Wish I Could Say I Was Sorry… became an US Amazon bestseller, reaching #35 in the US Top 100, Paid. Prior to publishing with Blackbird Digital, Susie was with Transworld who sold over 50,000 of her titles in the UK, some of those are rights-reverted and are now available to readers worldwide for the first time.
